Objectives and Key Strategies

Training Programmes:

Training ECD Practitioners (teachers) in ECD Core and Elective Unit Standards at NQF Levels 1 and 4 through-out Kwa-Zulu Natal and adjacent Eastern Cape areas. Training includes monitoring, support and assessment visits by TREE Trainers to the ECD practitioner at the ECD Site (pre-school/crèche).

Train ECD Practitioners on ECD Elective Courses at NQF Levels 2, 3 and 4.
Train Fundamental Learning in Communications and Mathematics Literacy at NQF Level 4.
Training ECD Site Principals/Supervisors in ECD Site Management.
Training ECD Site Parents‟ Committees in ECD Site Governance and Management.
Training Parenting Programme Facilitators to facilitate Parenting Programmes for parents/caregivers of young children, including HIV/AIDS and young children, to assist caregivers to better understand and provide for the rights and needs of young children.

Providing access to courses to teach participants skills in making ECD toys and educational equipment from waste and other materials.
Working together with ETDP SETA on ECD learnerships. Maintaining TREE‟s accreditation status through meeting the requirements of the ETDQA (Education Training Development Quality Assurance Body).
A number of informal courses to address the impact of HIV and AIDS.

Community ECD Intervention:

Where funding is available, to work hand in hand with communities and their ECD Forums, a cluster of ECD Sites, as well as other stakeholders in a geographic area, over a number of years, to promote quality sustainable ECD.

Continuing to initiate innovative ECD Programmes, rooted in a community, family and parent/caregiver response to meeting the developmental rights and needs of young children. Finding ways to reach out to young children, who do not have access to ECD programmes in an ECD Site, through working with adults who care for them.
Working towards TREE‟s Vision of Child and Family Support Centres, as a workable, cost effective solution to the growing cohort of vulnerable children.

Resources:

Making and selling high quality, low cost, culturally appropriate and attractive toys and educational equipment suitable for young South African children.
Developing and printing suitable ECD Resource books and materials for ECD Practitioners, parents and caregivers.

Networking and Advocacy:

Liaison, networking, advocacy and lobbying with relevant government departments and other stakeholders in the interests of young children and to advocate their rights.

Finance and Funding.

Looking for partnerships and funding to enable TREE to achieve its Mission and to ensure its long term sustainability.
Managing TREE‟s finances and resources efficiently and effectively.

Developing and expanding TREE‟s self generated income.
